Greenwich Labour’s Proposed Cuts
Posted by Simon Emmett on November 10, 2009, 11:42
All residents of Greenwich should read this report in local newspaper NewsShopper. It clearly shows that the local Labour party act in exactly the same way as the national one – they secretly plan cuts, but won’t admit to them.
In the report NewsShopper have quoted a confidential report submitted to the Labour group on behalf of the Council leader Chris Roberts. It lists the following areas that will be cut:
- Neighbourhood services
- Voluntary sector contracts
- Social care provision
- Access to services
- Abandoning “low priority” services and projects
- Contributions to the Thames Gateway London Partnership, Green Chain Walk, London Councils grants programme
- Increases to leaseholder charges
The fact is that the Greenwich Labour party have a history of doing this. Shortly after the 2006 local elections, millions of pounds were cut from services, although much like the spin of the national party, they were dubbed “efficiency savings”!
Now it appears that they already planning on doing the same should they be re-elected in May 2010.

Update: My apologies to Andrew Gilligan, who I hadn’t realised broke this story first. You can read Andrew’s post on Greenwich.co.uk HERE.
